What’s New in Windows 10’s 1909 update

Microsoft released November 2019 Update to Windows 10, codenamed 19H2, on 12 November. Often known as 1909 version of Windows 10, this is both the smallest and fastest Windows 10 Update yet. It is more like a support update than a feature update, however.

To get the update, head over to:

Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update. Click “Check for Updates.”

You’ll see a message saying a feature update is available. Click “Download and install now” to grab it.

A Less Disruptive Update

Microsoft officials have set up this update to be a tweak.  In a blog post, Microsoft called this update a set of bug fixes and tweaks, with some features for business users.  Author John Cable said the update:

“…will be a scoped set of features for select performance improvements, enterprise features, and quality enhancements.”

Part of the zeal behind 1909 is this is a small update that should set the stage for faster downloads and installs, and more frequent updates.  Gone are the days, theoretically, of long downloads, big reboots, and long nights waiting by the screen.

Windows users who already have the May 2019 Update (also known as 19H1) installed will get a small patch via Windows Update and quickly update themselves to the November 2019 Update (19H2.)

Windows 7 is set for it’s end of life on January 14th 2020, and Microsoft clearly has it’s eye set on avoiding a repeat of 2018’s bug-filled October update fiasco.

The good news is that the update is already out there.  Back in September, Microsoft said every Windows Insider in the “Release Preview” group had been offered the update to 1909.  2018’s October update was released without any testing.
