After opening an Apple Store-like space in Chicago, McDonald’s has now returned to the city to open its global headquarters. Located in Chicago’s West Loop neighbourhood, the new space marks the company’s return to the city where it was based between 1955 and 1971. The space will house 2,000 McDonald’s employees as well as the flagship Hamburger University for training employees and future leaders.
The headquarter’s design focuses on maximizing collaboration between members of the team, with features including “work neighbourhoods” with an open plan lay-out, a McCafé space and several outdoor terrace spaces. Other design considerations include sustainability — all waste product from the test kitchens will be composted and the building has a green roof — and the company’s heritage, with museum-quality displays of Happy Meal toys and vintage memorabilia.
The ground floor of the office contains a unique McDonald’s restaurant, which will feature a rotating menu of classic menu items and McDonald’s favorites from around the world. This restaurant — known as the “Experience of the Future” restaurant — will also contain a number of developments such as self-order kiosks, table service, enhanced hospitality, and mobile order and payment.
Earlier this year, McDonald’s unveiled the “McGold Card,” granting free meals for life.
