Free Dimension Video, aka “FreeD”, are instant replays rendered in half a minute, and offer so-called ‘bullet-time’ views. Its more than just cool, the technology can allow a better view into a play in football: the refs can now see every angle.
NBC will start using this technology right away: A Cowboys / Giants game on Sept 8th will debut the cameras.
Currently, AT&T stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, is the only stadium equipped with the proper 12-camer rig at both ends of the building. Expect every stadium to have the rigs by years end.
