Microsoft has taken down its Windows RT 8.1 update until further notice after several users reported the update resulted in bricked devices and lost data.

The company posted the following message on its website:
Microsoft is investigating a situation affecting a limited number of users updating their Windows RT device to Windows RT 8.1. As a result, we have temporarily removed the Windows RT 8.1 update from the Windows Store. We are working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience.
After Mashable Editor-in-Chief Lance Ulanoff tried to update his device, he tweeted this shot on Friday

Several users have chimed in since, leading to the update’s removal on Saturday. Thus far, the problem has been limited to Windows RT devices and the Windows 8.1 update had no issues.
“We will provide updates as they become available.”
