Businessweek has reported that Amazon is set to announce its own streaming box to deliver its Amazon Instant video content.
Bloomberg cited three unnamed sources suggesting the box will show up sometime this fall and will hook directly into your TV and provide access to Amazon’s Video on Demand AND its original content coming to Instant Video that comes with Amazon Prime.
This is all coming just after Amazon released its own series, marking a big shift in Amazon. Not only is Amazon pushing video, its pushing original content, making a device like a Kindle TV a big rival for an Apple TV.
A lot of questions will remain as to whether this box will allow third-party services, such as Hulu or Netflix or is this box will be an ‘Amazon Only’ service which will add to the pool of competition. Perhaps only time will tell…
