On March 27th, 1976, the Washington DC subway opened for the first time. With only 4.6 miles of track, the system was like a microcosm of what to expect in our near future. Now, in 2013, 106 miles of track is ridden daily by commuters.
Its amazing that many of our collective dreams of the future involved trains and subways, monorails and maglevs. theres something romantic about the clean, futuristic mass transit.
