So far, we’ve had to guess about the color of planets far far away. Hubble has taken great images, we’ve guessed at the makeup of its atmosphere and been able to think about what it might look like in artist renditions. Well, no more. Hubble has imaged the light from a planet HD 189733b, and it’s a lovely shade of blue.
She looks like home.
The more we see out there, the more hope we have there’s even more out there
While HD 189733b might look like a lovely new earth, and we’re very certain this is how it looks, this couldn’t be further from the truth. The planets atmosphere is over 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit, and it’s so warm, its thought to rain glass across the storms that ravage its surface.
More interestingly, we’re not sure why the planet is blue just yet. Jupiter is closer, and we’re not sure why the red spot is red.
For now, HD 189733b will remain a mystery, 63 light years away.
