Whenever I have a new smartphone, one of the first – if not the first – app i download is usually Facebook. It’s a pretty good app on the iPhone, and even when I (temporarily) had to use a BlackBerry, so you’d expect Facebook to show up at some point on Android looking great. According to Facebook, that’s not going to happen.

According to some, it’s because of bad blood between Facebook and Google, but according to TechCrunch:
“Facebook has dedicated exactly zero resources to creating a version of the service for Android, and has no plans to launch anything at all.”
Officially, Facebook is expecting third-party developers to pick up the slack and build the app, or just use the mobile site, but that’s a strange compromise. Facebook built their own iPhone app, and it’s good. They had a big hand in building their BlackBerry app, and third party devs have a bad track record for making beautiful apps.
According to the TechCrunch report, behind the scenes Facebook refers to Android as ‘vaporware” or more poignantly, “Android sucks. It doesn’t matter”. Time will tell
