It’s been almost four years since Marvel shooks us with the announcement that Captain Marvel was coming to it’s Cinemeatic Univsere. Since then, we’ve had a Civil War, the arrival of the Black Panther, the destruction of Asgard and the Arrival and culling at the hands of Thanos. Bit by bit her arrival have been teased, and now we finally have the first look at her in action.
Unveiled by Brie Larson, who portrays Captain Marvel, (real name Carol Danvers), on GMA this morning, Marvel has dropped the very first footage from the film, making this the first Marvel film with a female lead since the MCU began with Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man over 10 years ago. Set mostly in the 1990’s, Captain Marvel has pilot Carol Danvers sent into space to wrestle with her human and alien background – that background being part Kree, meaning she has powers.
The trailer gives us our first look at Carol, in both Kree unform and the more familier red and blue suit. It also gives us a look at the Kree homeworld, Hala, and the enemy: the Skrulls, a shapshifting race that have a long comic history with the Kree.
Here’s a new poster as well, featuring Carol in her red and blue suit:
Captain Marvel, also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Clark Gregg, Gemma Chan, Lashana Lynch, Lee Pace, Jude Law, Djimon Hounsou, Ben Mendelsohn, and Annette Bening. It soars into theaters March 8, 2019.
