Canadian Technology Becomes Film Industry Standard


Although the Oscars happened a few months ago, the Scientific and Technical Academy Awards were held ahead of time.

What does this mean for Canada? Well, Canadian Doug James of London Ontario, and Vancouver-based Nils Thuerey are among this year’s winners for Wavelength Turbulence, software that’s become the go-to technology for making explosions, gas and smoke look more realistic.

Altogether, 25 people will receive plaques and certificates recognizing their technical achievements in movie making in Los Angeles on Saturday. Portions of the awards were included in the main Oscar telecast on February 24 2013.
