Computational Biologists have built the largest family tree ever constructed, jammed with over 13 million people over the course of 500 years.

Presented in March’s Science, researchers scraped public genealogy profiles to assemble the tree.  Amongst the insights gleaned from the project was that longevity was probably less related to genetics that researchers had previously thought.

The tree’s real insights have yet to be fully understood, however.

As more genetic data is added and more health information is built, researchers believe the tree could unveil a great deal about what causes certain disease.
