A study in February’s Science suggested that Neanderthals were capable of abstract thought and symbolic art. A study in June’s Nature Ecology & Evolution provided evidence that Neanderthals used co-operative big-game hunting tactics. The third study was published in July’s Scientific Reports offered insight into the creation of fire using stone tools
