Best of 2018: Marine Mammals Measure Melt

Fourteen seals, all wearing advanced sensors strapped to their bodies were sent out into Antarctica’s hard to reach Amundsen Sea in an attempt to help scientists gather data about the area/READ MORE// Arctic Ice Hits a new Record Low

The measurements gathered by the swimming research team were published in May, and they could go a long way to helping explain how Circumpolar Deep Water – a current that circles Antarctica – affects how the West Antarctica Ice Sheet is melting.
