In 50 years, researchers have some interesting predictions for how Antarctica will fair.
By 2070, Antarctica’s air will be almost 5 degrees fahrenheit warmer and therefor windier, and that’s according to a study published in June’s edition of Nature. The ice sheets and remaining glaciers would become thin, if not entirely collapsed. That means the oceans will become less salty and more oxygenated, lowering the ph levels. That amount of ice also means sea levels will rise by almost a foot, inundating coastal cities.
