Some two million distinct animal species have previously been discovered by humans on the planet, but some estimates are more than one million more left to be discovered.

But we humans are trying. Every year, researchers around the globe find some 17,000 to 18,000 new species, and this year was no exception.
Amongst the find this year are a blind cavefish, a new species of tree frog from Madagascar, and Antechinus Aktos, a marsupial that is notable for the male of the species dying after the mating season due to…um..overexertion.
