According to Apple’s Senior VP of Operation Jeff Williams, over 10,000 Apps have now been developed for the Apple Watch. The 10,000 app mark is a crucial milestone for Apple, showing that the Apple Watch has more to offer than just telling the time and basic notifications. The 10,000 mark notably exceeds the 4,000 apps available on the Android Wear store, the Google-made front for apps tailored for Google’s own wearables.
The Apple Watch was the first new major product to come out of the Cupertino, California company, since the iPad was launched in 2010.
The Watch was released in April, retailing in range from $349 to $17,000
The Apple Watch has since faced criticism. Apple has yet to release specific sales numbers for the wearable, leading analysts to speculate that sales are slower than had been hoped. In the first three months on the market, a report from Strategy Analytics showed that the Apple Watch had de-throned the Samsung Gear as the top-selling device, taking a strong 76-percent of the market. Samsung would go on to showcase the Gear S2, which received better reviews.
