The project lead has been appointed to famed architect Kengo Kuma, who also designed The Opposite House in Beijing and is responsible for Tokyo’s impending Olympic Stadium. Located close to the Kyoto landmark Nijō Castle, the neighborhood surrounding the hotel, according to the company, “sits on the former grounds of the imperial palace and is rumored to once have been the home of Japanese samurai.” Additionally, the hotel will be walking distance from popular tourist spots such as the Nishiki Market, the Museum of Kyoto and Kyoto Art Center.

An exact date has yet to be announced, but Ace Hotel Kyoto is slated to open its doors sometime in 2019.
